Create a rangoli using multiple-colored sands. Rangoli is an art form that is native to India and patterns are created on the floor. Rangoli patterns can be simple geometric or floral shapes, allowing elaborate & intricate designs.

Common symbols used in Rangoli include peacocks, lotus flowers, mangoes, and fish. These Rangoli patterns are drawn with a mixture of calcium, chalk powder, or rice flour. The patterns can be filled with a mix of materials such as colored powders, sand, flower petals, rice flour, lentils, and beans. This forms a Rangoli, one of the most beautiful Indian folk arts.

The participants will create Rangoli using multiple colors of sand on letter-size craft paper. They can choose one pattern. All the materials will be provided. The instructor will provide instructions and guidance on color schemes and color placements. All participants can take their masterpieces home. A Piscataway Public Library card is required to register for this event.
